Silver Stick Game #1
The Peninsula Predators Novice 'C' girls took to the ice today in Port Elgin to take on the host team in the Saugeen Shores Storm.

With both teams knowing each other really well, either from some of the girls playing together last season from off of both teams, or the fact they have played each other 5 times already this season, or the fact that because the coaches have worked together before in the past, there really isn't many secrets about both teams.

But Saugeen has 2 new secrets as they have signed Ashley Shields and Natalie Brown to play net for their team.

Shields played today and looked solid.  The first period was tight checking and saw the Storm out shoot the Predators 5 to 2 overall through the first frame.

But it was the Predators who opened the scoring with team captain, Maizy Hutchinson putting in an unassisted marker with 4 and a half minutes to go in the first.

Madeline Linklater got the first shot on net in the game on a break away, but Ashley Sheilds closed the door.

Laura Naves looked equally sharp as she denied all the first period shots.

Saugeen tied the game up with 3 minutes left on the clock in the second period.  Phenom, Calean Macdonald went end to end and went to her left and stuck a beautiful back hand up stairs to get the Storm on the board.

The third period started 1 to 1 with the Storm holding a 12 to 5 lead on the shot clock.
Kennedy Stauffer scored the eventual winner 3 minutes into the frame, as she stood beside the net, she took a pass from Natalie Brown and buried it on the short side.  Brooklyn Quantz drew the other assist on the play.

Calean Macdonald then went end to end again to make it 3 to 1 as she made a nice deke to her left, and again she put it in with a back hand, but this time she went along the ice off of the goal post.

1 minute later, Lily Van Geel broke through the Preds defence line and scored 5 hole on Naves with team captain, Olivia Hall getting the only assist.

Hall then finished the 5 to 1 victory with a unassisted goal with just under 2 minutes to go as she also went 5 hole on a breakaway.

The game was well played by both teams and was really tight for almost 2 periods.   Laura Naves made 19 saves as the Predators were out shot 24 to 8 in the end.

Great effort today girls!  Hardest worker and Top Digger awards went to Madeline Linklater & Gillian Warren.

Tomorrow, the Preds take on the South Huron Sabres from Exeter at 9 am in Port Elgin at the Plex.
Good luck girls!
