Preds Win in Overtime Thriller...
The Bruce Peninsula Predators Novice Local #1 team travelled to Port Elgin on Sunday, March 6th to play an afternoon game vs Saugeen Shores Storm #2, it was their 3rd game in as many days, so the chance of fatigue was threatening as we entered the contest.

Saugeen was strong early on, pretty much controlling the play and keeping the puck deep in our zone for the entire first period.

Michael Rouse was outstanding turning away all the shots he faced in the first to keep thigs tied up at 0 to 0 heading into the 2nd period.
Saugeen continued its strong play into the 2nd period as our kids were still adjusting to the big ice surface at the Plex.
The Storm would score first at the 7:39 minute mark, but we would get one back at 5:52, followed by another storm goal 13 seconds later.
We would tie it up 1 minute and 24 seconds later, and started to find our game in the final moments of the second period.

So heading into the 3rd, our kids figured it was time to skate harder and began to really push the play the other way, even though Saugeen found a way to get an early goal in the 3rd, we never took the foot off the gas and we tied it up with 1 minute and 39 seconds left in the game.

So as the final buzzer of regulation sounded out, our kids were entering unchartered territory as they took a 3 to 3 tie into overtime.
The kids continued to pressure Saugeen and we scored 2 minutes into overtime to win 4 to 3!

The never quit attitude we showed today was outstanding, and along with some superb goaltending by Michael Rouse, who stood on his head in this one, especially in the 1st period, helped us find a way to hold on and eventually figure out a way to get the win as a team!
So proud of you guys team, keep up the great work!
Payton Cawthorne and Shiloh McNair were so strong on the boards today and Gabriel McNair played a flawless game on defence to help lead our team.
Special shout out to Shailan Miller who was a checking machine in this game and had some really great puck carries including two end to end break away attempts.

In the end, as the saying goes sometimes, good teams find a way to win bad games, this was ringing true today as our opponent was so strong and very fun to play against.

Scoring in this one was Broguen McManus with 2 goals and 1 assist, including scoring the tie goal in the final minute and setting up the game winner for Mason Fortin.
Dalton Fries scored 1 goal, Shailan Miller had 2 assists, While Asher Simpson, Lillie Dowd, Shiloh McNair, Ashton Boyle & Gabriel McNair each chipped in with 1 assist apiece.

Our next game is in Southampton next Saturday, March 12th at 12:45p vs the Saugeen Shores Storm #1 team.

Great weekend kids, you all played so well and contributed as a team, we are such a proud coaching staff!
