Port Carling Hockey Tournament Summary
This past weekend, the Bantam Reps participated in the Port Carling Hockey Tournament. Our first game was played Friday night vs Erin–Hillsburg. Our guys played well despite the long drive to Port Carling.
The Preds won 6-2 with goals by Brandon Fletcher (3) Clay Hellyer (1) Benton Lancaster (1) and Dexter Bridge (1). Goaltender Chris Latimer was in net for the Preds.
On Saturday afternoon they played a highly skilled Lakefield team suffering a 4-2 loss. The Bantams played a very disciplined game that helped them take advantage of the few opportunities throughout the game. With only 4 penalties called all game (2 for each team) the Pred’s work ethic allowed them to not only skate with Lakefield, but also keep them from creating opportunities to go ahead early. Goals were scored by Benton Lancaster (1) and Brandon Fletcher (1). Goaltender for this game was Kevin Furgal.
With the final game of the divisional groups, The Bantam Reps beat Coldwater 5-2. The fact that Coldwater received 15 min in penalities allowed the Preds to work on a few powerplays. Goaltender Chris Latimer played well for the Predators. Goals were scored by Dexter Bridge (2) Benton Lancaster (1) Brandon Fletcher (1) and Evan Kreuwtzweiser (1).
After finishing 3rd overall out of 8 teams, the Bantams were to face off the Brock Wild on Sunday. With a heart-breaking loss of 6-0, some would say that we left our skates at the beautiful JW Marriot Resort. We only seemed to get a few shifts in the first two periods where we could keep pace with the quick skating team from Brock. Simply put, Brock showed up to play the full 3 periods.
Great job guys and as I have always said, the season and tournaments are the best practice for the most important games that start next week>>playoffs!!!
I believe we are ready to compete. It’s time to take everything we’ve learned and apply it to every shift; every game.
