WOAA Playoffs In Full Swing
The Pee Wee Predators had a busy weekend with Playoff games in Ayton and Listowel.
On Friday, February 15 the Pee Wee team traveled to Ayton to play West Grey in their first game of their home & home series. The Predators came out flying. They were skating hard, hitting and passing well. The Reps were first on the scoreboard at 7:47 of period one on a goal by Wade assisted by Trenton. The Predators scored a second time at 4:26 of the First Period on another goal by Wade. Josh and Andrew drew the assists on the second goal. The Pee Wee Reps were ahead 2-0 after the first ten minutes of play.
Early in the Second period, West Grey came out strong and were able to score two quick goals to tie things up. The Predators kept their composure and continued to play hard. With a parade of questionable penalties, the Pee Wees were able to avoid giving up any short handed goals and carried the majority of the offensive play for the remainder of the Second Period.
The Third Period saw the Rep forwards (Riley, Andrew, Wade, Josh, Owen, Parker, Daniel, Trenton and Clayton) continue to work together and do their best to get scoring opportunities. The defence lines (Breyden, Ethan, Brookelyn, Jake and Rebecca) also played well together and did their best to try to prevent West Grey from scoring. Unfortunately, at 7:37 of the third West Grey scored what would be the game winning goal. The Predators will meet West Grey again in Lion's Head on Tuesday, February 26 at 7:30.
On Sunday, February 17 the Predators visited a concert like atmosphere at the Listowel Arena. The blaring music seemed to pump up the Pee Wee Reps as they faced the Cyclones in their second meeting of the WOAA Playoffs. The teams were evenly matched and both goalies kept their opponent off of the scoreboard in the First Period of play.
The Cyclones scored early in the Second to take a 1-0 lead. Andrew scored for the Predators at 8:31 to tie things up. Wade and Josh assisted. Wade was able to score a second goal for the Predators on a pass from Andrew. Breyden also assisted on this goal that saw the Pee Wee Reps take a 2-1 lead. The Cyclones pushed back and scored again to even the score. With 1:16 left in the period Wade took charge and on a break away he was able to put the puck in Listowel's net. The Predators led the Cyclones 3-2 at the end of the Second.
Period Three saw the Predators goalie Brennan shut down Listowel. He made some amazing saves and kept his team in the lead. The Pee Wee Reps put the game away with Andrew scoring unassisted at 9:51 of the Third. Wade scored an empty net goal off of the face-off with 1:17 left to play. The Predators were victorious with a final score of 5-2.
Next weekend will see both games of the home & home series with Mount Forest being played. The Rams will be traveling to Wiarton on Saturday, February 23 at 4:30. The Predators are in Mount Forest on Sunday, February 24 at 3:15. It should be another exciting weekend of hockey!
