Lady Preds Drop close One heading into Silver Stick
The Peninsula Predators Novice 'C' girls hosted the Saugeen Shores Storm last week and lost a close 2 to 0 final.
The game will be either team's last game to be played before the International Silver Stick Tournament this weeknd in Port Elgin, Ontario.
The game was well played by both teams who used this game as preparation as they are both competing for the Novice crown for the first time ever for their respective associations this weekend.
The Storm were short handed in the game, only having 8 players, but that didn't slow them down as they carried the pace of the game right from the beginning to the end.
Laura Naves was outstanding in Goal for the Predators as the Storm out shot the Preds 32 to 5.
Wiarton Native, Kennedy Stauffer got the shutout for the Storm for her first ever and her second win of the season.
Calean Macdonald had both goals for the Storm who never scored until 4 minutes and 3 seconds left in the second period. Laura Naves made 4 saves before the storm finally pushed it past her on the scramble in front of her net.
Then the Storm added some insurance in the third period with 7 minutes to go again having to score on a rebound after Naves made the original save on a break away.
Naves made 11 saves in the first period and 11 more in the first 6 minutes of the second period.
Alternate captain, Maggie Klunder was a skating machine knocking off 4 break away attempts by the Storm with great back checking efforts.
The girls were terrific and the coaching staff was very impressed with the effort the team put fourth in the game.
Next action will see the 2 teams hook up in game #1 of the International Silver Stick Tournament in Port Elgin at the Plex on Friday, February 8th at 2:45p.m. and the Predators will take on the South Huron Sabres from Exeter the following day at 9a.m. also in Port Elgin.
Good Luck Girls!
